YouthBuild is a paid six-month pre-apprenticeship program for low-income youth ages 18-24. YouthBuild offers GED preparation, case management, job readiness & pre-apprenticeship training, and job placement support. Youth also acquire teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills and earn two terms of college credit through South Seattle Community College.

Youth attend classes every Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are graded and paid based on their classroom attendance, participation, productivity, and quality of work. In general, youth take four classes a day and subjects alternate between trade-based construction skills in our shop/on employer job sites, GED test preparation, college level courses in mathematics, civics, and language arts, job readiness training, physical training, and leadership development.

After youth graduate, youth receive 9 months of follow-up from their case manager to support them in achieving their goals, including placements in apprenticeship programs in the trades (or other gainful employment opportunities) and/or post-secondary education.
