III. Annual Report 2010: Strengthening Our Infrastructure
Raynier Institute and Foundation awards $5.7 million to YouthCare
YouthCare benefited from the generosity of the Raynier Institute and Foundation, which awarded $5.7 million to fund both the opening of the Young Adult Shelter at the Orion Center, and also Catalyst at Straley House, a low-barrier housing program for youth struggling with mental health or chemical dependency issues. This grant has allowed YouthCare to respond to the needs of our young people in an unprecedented way, doubling the number of available shelter beds in the city for young adults and creating innovative solutions to youth homelessness.
YouthCare receives prestigious Bank of America grant
In November 2010, the Bank of America Charitable Foundation named YouthCare one of two 2010 Puget Sound Neighborhood Builders®. YouthCare received $200,000 in unrestricted grant funding, allowing us flexibility in meeting the critical, and often last minute, needs of our young people. We also participated in Bank of America’s Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program® with other nonprofit leaders from 44 communities across the country and London. YouthCare received the 2010 award along with Seattle Jobs Initiative, an employment and job skills training provider in King County and longtime partner with YouthCare.
Luncheon Revenue Doubles
Our Annual Luncheon is always a highlight – donors come together to hear directly from the youth we serve. In 2010, we successfully doubled the revenue from this event over the previous year, thanks to a combination of increased attendance, increased suggested minimum gift, and increased corporate sponsorship.
