How Many Homeless Youth Live in King County?

It's a difficult question to answer, though it is estimated that in Seattle alone, there are 700 to 1,000 youth with no safe place to sleep each night. It's relatively easy to add up the number of youth staying in shelters on a given night, but until recently, few homeless counts tracked unaccompanied homeless youth and young adults living in unstable housing or on the streets. That's no exaggeration: 800 volunteers found 2,594 people sleeping on the streets, under bridges, in their cars, on public transit, in temporary shelters and in makeshift campsites.
